Augustus Chastain could be Agustus M. Chastine (19 May 1859 in Dalton, GA-23 Dec 1911 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant, Texas). His wife was Sarah and his children included Robert Marion, Gertrude, Clara, Ethel, Charles, Willie, and George. Two children were born in Center Point, Arkansas. His son Charles was born in 1896 probably in Wolfe City, Hunt County, Texas.

Hey. Just searching for info - 2nd Great Grandmother, Mary Jemima Adams - could this be a daughter of William and Rebecca Chastain Adams of Pickens County SC? Found article in NC library stated two daughters names not known. Jemima was supposedly named after her grandmother, Jemima Denton? who married John Chastain. Could this be my missing link? Great Site.

I'm looking for confirmation of my lineage to Rev. John Chastain of Pumpkintown. I have found sources showing from my great grandfather (Marion Larkin Chastain) and his father (Louis Napoleon Chastain married to Hannah Twigg). I believe Louis's father was Raney Lafayette. Can anyone confirm that for me? I was told by my grandmother that Louis N. (Poley) was buried in Murphy, NC and that matches with the research on Poley son of Raney.
Thanks so much, Chad |

Hello Chastain Brothers, I really enjoy you web-site!!!! In The guestbook, there is a message from a Teri Chastain in Springfield Mo, her grandfather, (my grandfather) was James Arthur Chastain, his first Wife was Florence and she is buried now near Mack's Creek Mo. My Father is Harvey Lee Chastain, her father's brother. My father was a preacher for many years. Our grandfather went by Arthur, even though his name was James Arthur, his mother was Rhoda Hill and she was 1/2 Cherokee. Arthur & Florence had 6 sons and one daughter, they divorced in the early 50's and Arthur remarried and had 6 more sons and one more daughter. Aunt Ruthie lives just outside of Mack's Creek. My dad has the book The Chestnut Tree, and she is listed in it! Hope this helps.

Rev. John Chastain grave and related graves
I signed the guestbook recently, and went searching for the grave of Rev. John Chastain my gggg grandfather), located in Pickens County, SC. I did locate his grave and was so happy to see it at last. On the way back, I was travelling up Hwy 288 (Table Rock Road) near Pumpkintown, in Pickens County, and happened upon a Family Cemetery alongside the road. There were two well-kept plots - one Rev. Maxwell Chastain, and the second Edward Chastain - of an age to have been grandchildren of Rev. John, which I suspect they were. Also, on this site were 6 or 7 "slab rock" graves, crumbling in, no markers, and covered completely with moss - very, very old. Can anyone help me place Maxwell and Edward in the family, and/or give me a clue about the ancient moss covered graves? |

Rev. John Chastain
Hi everyone - I am happy to have found this site.. Rev. John Chastain is my 4-greats grandfather, descended through Rev. Benjamin and Rebecca Denton Chastain; their son Jonathan Davis (or David) Chastain and Rachel Stover Chastain; their daughter Rebecca Chastain Kimmons and William Kimmons; their son, Jonathan Bunyan Kimmons and Laura Jane Cantrell Kimmons; and their son, James Edward Kimmons and Margaret Mae Owens Kimmons -- my parents. Saying hello to all the kith and kin...I have not actively pursued genealogy since the 80's due to ill health - but recently connected Rev. John to Oolenoy Baptist Church, which he organized in 1795, in what would have been the Pickens or Pendleton District of South Carolina. I see notes that mention his headstone, but I've never seen a picture of it. Anyone able to give me a link to a picture of his marker or its exact location? Thx. |

Mary Chastain
I would like to compare notes in my Genealogy to check for accuracy and to add my family that descends from the Chastain line in Union County, Georgia. In my research I found that I am a descendent of Mary Chastain> daughter of Edward Brigand Chastain and Hannah Brown.> Mary was born July 6, 1796 and died July 22, 1865.> She married Alfred Nicholson. They had several children, and their daughter, >Mary Nicholson was born Dec 3, 1848. I know that there is some inacuracy here, as the dates I have recorded would put Mary Chastain giving birth to Mary Nicholson at the age of 52, which is unlikely. There could be an error in dates or it is possible that I have skipped a genration and one of the Nicholson Children listed was actually her father (possibly John Nicholson). In any case, my records show Mary Nicholson> marrying CA Jones. They had a son, >John William Jones. |

Green Berry Chastain
I am a Chastain from Alabama. My name is Jean Jilmary Chastain Clowers although I am seriously thinking about taking my maiden name back as I just can’t get used to Clowers. Only been married four years. My two brothers and my sister live in Talladega County and the name of our road (paved and everything) is Chastain Road. It is named after our uncle William Leroy Chastain who was the county commissioner in the 1930’s. Our family is pretty well known in the area. Troy Green Chastain was my father’s first cousin. My great grand-father was Green Berry (1835-1910) who was Troy Green’s brother. My brother, Joe Chastain was on your website at one time: he was quoted on the flap of a book about then President George W. Bush. He served in the Alabama National Guard with him. I am trying to do something “noteworthy” so I can get on your website! Give me some time…. Thanks, Your cousin, Jil |

Friend Chastain
My father is the son of Robert Lee Chastain, born 1905 Atlanta, Ga. Robert Lee was the son of William Thomas (WT) Chastain, born 1884, probably Woodstock, GA. WT Chastain was the son of Gadberry Chastain, born 1849 in (I think) S.C. My dad knew WT and remembers stories of Gadberry (who died when by father was about 4 years old). I am trying to find (if it exists) the link to Pierre (the immigrant), Pierre (Peter) Jr., Rev. John line of descent. I suspect the descent is as follows: Gadberry, s/o Friend "Chuck" Chastain (a brother of Green Berry Chastain), s/o William (m. Martha Jones), s/o William (m. Annie Motes), s/o Abner (by wife Nancy ? Sisson), s/o Rev. John (by wife Mary O'Bryan). Does PCD include Friend Chastain as a son of William Chastain and Martha Jones? Any info on Friend's wife and children? Thanks.

Chastain from Alabama

Brandi Chastain Ancestry
I saw an article on ChastainCentral.com regarding the ancestry of soccer player Brandi Chastain: Brandi Chastain. I research descendants of the Soblet family, including Pierre Chastain's wife Anne Soblet. As part of my research, I have collected many Social Security SS-5 applications, including two that are relevant to Brandi Chastain's family.

First, Second, and Third John Chastains
My great great grandmother was Nancy Chastain Turner. She married Mathias Staten Turner. From what I can gather she descends from Pierre through Pierre Jr (Peter), John, John, John. Her parents were John Chastain III (I think) and Mary Jane Akins. Which John is the Blind (and was he blind?), which one was the ten shilling bell? I need some help connecting these clues.

Clyde Chastain
I'm looking for information on a Clyde Marion or Marion Clyde Chastain. She was the daughter of William Edward Chastain and Mary Emmaline Haley Chastain. She was born about 1902 probably in Marion County, Alabama. Clyde married a Dodd, then a Morgan Tittle, my great uncle. He was the son of James Franklin "Frank" Tittle, the son of Theophilus Tittle. Morgan Tittle was my grandfather's brother, Bart Tittle. When Clyde married Morgan, she listed her last name as Dodd. Clyde married Morgan in 27 Jun 1920 in Winston Co., AL. When he died in 1926 in Franklin County, IL, she put her name down as Marion Tittle. Clyde had two daughters with Morgan Tittle, Eunise Bobbie and Nola Mae Tittle. Both girls were born in Marion County, Al. The two girls made their way to California. Clyde and Morgan lived in Tyrone Twp, Franklin, IL for a short time. He was killed in a accident. Clyde is on the 1930 census with William and Emmaline Chastain on 7 Apr in Kimbrough, Marion, AL. as their daughter, and the two girls are with her at the time. Would you have any information that you can share about Clyde? Did she remarry, when and she died? Who was the Dodd she married?

Finally, are you related to the late Tony Chastain who was on the all-night show on WKIS-AM in Orlando?

Andrew Tillman Chastain and Sara Ann Buster
This information was given to me by Edith Keeling many years ago when I visited her in Koshkonong, Missouri. She also took me to Bridges Cemetery and showed me Sara Chastain and several other Chastain grave sites. Andrew Tillman Chastain and his wife Sara Ann (Buster) Chastain moved to Oregon County, Missouri in 1859. Their farm was halfway between Brandsville and Koshkonong. Andrew enlisted in the Confederate army and died near Springfield in 1861. Sara lived on the farm with their children...Thomas, Elijah, William (Ediths great grandfather), Andy (father of Joe & Walter Chastain who were farmers & merchants in Koshkonong for many years), Frank (grandfather of Talmage Chastain. Talmage was mailclerk & barber in Koshkonong for many years), and Clementine (married Tom Bridges). Grandma Sara fought the Civil War in Oregon County--she had her husband off to war, six kids, a log house, a garden, and a few animals. The "Raiders" came and demanded food. She told them she'd cook whatever food she had for them if they would leave her children and livestock alone. She said the first time they came they drove off the livestock after butchering a calf but after that they were peaceful as long as she prepared them a meal. She and the children buried foodstuff in a cellar they dug in the woods "just in case". |

William R. Chastain
Hello, my grandmother Betty was a Chastain before marrying. I researched some stuff for my grandmother. I found a lot of very interesting stuff but I was wanted more information about my grandmothers grandfather Joseph B. Chastain and her great grandfather William R. Chastain. She tells stories of one of them being a trail blazer and marrying a Cherokee woman. If you could point me in the right direction I would be very appreciative. I have one more question: Ok,let me give you some background. Joseph Chastain married Nora Rhinehart. Nora's Mother is Maggie Joe Floyd. I found census forms that show Maggie was a widow and had children with the names Wilson and Rhinehart. I couldn't find any record of Nora's father so I followed up by researching Maggie. I found a 1880 census form (which is before Nora was born) it states Maggie was living with James Lanier, his family, along with a man named Jerry Wilson... The census had Maggie and Jerry listed as farm laborers and listed them as black. Now on other census forms it has all the Wilson children, Nora and Maggie all listed as white. Is this a mistake on this census form or is she black? If you are able to help me in anyway or if you can tell me where to look I would be grateful. Thank you for your time.

I am going to France in May and would like to try to see where Pierre Chastain Sr. is buried or find something that I can see related to him. I believe that they lived in Charost and later Bourges. Do you know where his grave is there or where there is some tangible piece of Chastain history that I could view there? Also our family is meeting in Virginia in October. We are going to try to visit the grave of Pierre Chastain Jr. Do you know exactly where this is or if we can view it? Thank you so much for your help, John Burton (son of Eula Claudine Burton)

Thomas Andrew Chastain
I am very interested in finding the parents of my great-grandfather, Thomas Andrew Chastain. He was born around 1850-1852. We believe at some time he lived in the Tuckaseegee area of what is now Jackson County, North Carolina (until 1851 was part of Macon and Haywood Counties). The earliest census I can find Andy in is 1880 where he is listed as T.A. Chastain, age 29, and his wife, M.J. Chastain, age 22 (Macon Co, NC, Blue Ridge Township). He spent most of his adult life living near Highlands, NC or nearby in Rabun County, GA. He married Marth Jane Chastain, daughter of David Jasper Rogers and Elizabeth Ford Rogers.

Chastain Daughters
Hi guys - you have a lovely site! One thing is that you have some critical errors on the Daughters of Pierre Chastain page. For one thing, Mary and Magdalene were two daughters not one. See Pierre Chastain's Will posted on your site. Mary was born about 1709 and died unmarried and childless c 1731 - Goochland Co. Judith is quite a story. Giles Ballew was not French, nor a Huguenot. He belonged to a family who had resided in Henrico for several generations. While Thomas Walker was nailed as the father of one of her children, DNA evidence says that Thomas Prewitt was the father of at least one, Rene "Renney," and the two of them were probably the parents of Thomas' sons David and Michael Prewitt. Judith left a tangled web! A descendant of the supposed Peter Ballew has recently done a DNA test. The results should be interesting. There are representative results for the Henrico Ballew/Bellew line. Have a great day...

Edward Colfax Chastain
I was reading Chastain Central. It was mentioned that [James Knox Polk Chastain ] named one of his sons Edward Colfax Chastain. Edward had a child, named Inola June Chastain (my grandmother) with Mary Elizabeth Hayes. They had four children together. Mary was 14 years younger than Edward and part native american. We don't have any records of how or from whom Mary was native american. Inola was born 12 Jun 1911 in Prescott, Missouri. This is information Inola's oldest son gave me: Edward left Mary and their children when Inola was 5 years old and remarried his first wife, Mrytle Mae Crane and they had one child shortly after. Edward took off again and saw his youngest son once when he was 12 years old. The boy grew up and owned an appliance store in Kansas. He retired and moved to California where he lived until about 2005. He had two daughters currently living in California. Inola, was adopted by William Hill and Alta Stigall sometime after Edward left them. But I don't have any legal documents to show the dates or details.
